What’s a Troctopus?

CV

Emiland is a thing of nightmares and is the owner and operator of Troctopus Press and with extensive experience both with the manufacturing of fine press books, artist books, zines, and games. Oftentimes called a whimsy-monger, Emiland finds ways to incorporate humor and nostalgia into each book that he gets his hands on. With a history as a fine arts picture framer, a painter, and a game designer, his breadth of knowledge adds luxe style and high quality gumption to every project. He began his artistic career by living and working in Las Vegas, Nevada and received his BFA from the University of Nevada, Reno in 2020. That same year, he began his MFA at the University of Arizona, Tucson. He has participated in group shows nationally since 2016 and has had solo shows across Nevada and in Arizona. Since then, Kray continues to make art with a focus on community involvement and volunteer work and has graduated with his MFA in the Spring of 2023 and has established his own community press, Troctopus Press. Troctopus Press functions with the mission to support collaborative and community building endeavors in the book-making field and provides professional opportunities to artists, poets, creative writers, and art historians. With the creation of artist books it reflects a communal and mutual desire for creative connection and understanding. He oversees the design and production of each book that is created under the press name.

Let’s work together!

Troctopus Press began as a solo book studio in 2020 creating works designed solely by the artist Emiland Kray. As his career developed, more and more of his work involved collaboration with the incredible artists and researchers around him. It’s through developing those dear relationships with old friends and new companions that he now focuses predominately on creating and producing artist books that highlight his collaborative efforts.

Because of this goal, the artwork created by Troctopus Press offers diverse points of view on a variety of subjects. Through teamwork we learn to grow, disagree, communicate, and succeed together, and this press supports that ideal.

The profits from each collaborative project are split fairly between each collaborator and we do our best to source materials from ethical and local sources.
